Forgotten Fayre specialises in homemade preserves, hand made in small batches the traditional way. Established in November 2004, it was inspired by both historical and wild ingredients and recipes which seem to have disappeared from today's culinary spectrum.
The English countryside produces a wonderful array of wild fruits, berries and flowers, all of which in the past, were transformed into flavourful preserves. From simple cottage ranges to ordered Elizabethan kitchens, fruits and vegetables along with expensive exotic fruits of the time would be transformed into rich chutneys, pickles, jams and jellies in order that they could be enjoyed throughout the winter months. Even flowers would have been crystallised and eaten as a sweet meat.
Forgotten Fayre's Wildcrafted Range are based on authentic rural heritage recipes. Wild fruits and berries are handpicked* from selected sites throughout Dorset and the New Forest and are then prepared and handmade into preserves using traditional methods.
The Traditional Range includes many ingredients which seem to have fallen out of favour over the years and these are home grown, or sourced from local suppliers and growers wherever possible, including private individuals who are kind enough to allow me to "scrump" their fruit trees!
Due to the seasonal nature of many ingredients, it should be noted that many products are subject to availability.
Forgotten Fayre can be found at Farmers markets and shows throughout the South West and a mail order service is available to the rest of the country.
